Interview with Jean Fan, Photographer + Tutorial

http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac236/jfotography/strawberrybubbles.jpg

I was looking around on deviantArt, which is a site for artists to share their work and get critique if you didn't know, and I came across this wonderful photographer, Jean Fan (roseonthegrey on dA)! Here is the tutorial on making your own bubbly photos like the one above!

And finally, the interview!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a 20 year old, self-taught, photography-enthusiast specializing in conceptual photography.

2. What are 3 photographers that you admire - past or present?

Harold E. "Doc" Edgerton - inventor of high-speed stroboscopic photography.
Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre - inventor of the daguerreotype process.
Jason Lee - for bringing his children into his world of photography.

3. If you weren’t a professional photographer, what would you like to be doing?

That's easy because I'm not a professional photographer. I'm currently studying biomedical engineering and applied mathematics and working as a bioinformatics programmer.

4. What's something that not many people know about you?

Well, not many people know me...so something that not many people know about me would be that I exist.

5. If someone gave you $2000 today to spend on photography equipment, what would you buy?

I don't really need any new equipment right now. Honestly, I think I have too much equipment already. A part of the creative process is forcing yourself to do more with less. I'd probably invest th
at money and spend it on a new camera when mine becomes obsolete...which at the rate that technology is progressing will probably be fairly soon (well within the next couple years).

6. Other than your camera, what is your must-have for sessions?

Patience.

7. Which is your most-used lens?

Probably a three-way-tie between my Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm F/1.8D, Nikon AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 G ED II, and Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di.

8. What inspired you to start photography?

The need to create something.

10. If you could have lunch with someone famous, who would that be?

Stephen Hawking, just so I could see how he eats.

11. Could you share 3 of your favorite images?

The Source, source

Home Made TLR Camera, source

weremadeofCARBON, source

12. Lastly, what is your advice to budding photographers?

Keep at it. Experiment and have fun. Google and Wikipedia can help you when you get stuck.

Thanks Jean Fan! You can visit her deviantArt page here, Facebook here, and her website here.

See ya! :]

  1. Thanks for sharing, Semalina!

This is an inspiring interview and i can't agree more with Jean Fan for "Keep at it. Experiment and have fun." - that's probably the best advice that I will take to pursue anything that I am truly interested.
