DIY: How To Make a Kawaii Cat

Kawaii Dumpling Love {source}

I *adore* anything kawaii! I mean, those little cute faces! How can you even resist?
So I made a little kawaii cat pattern for you!

Please excuse my beyond messy handwriting :P At the moment I don't have my camera, so I can't take any pictures of mine, but I'll walk you through the process.

First, you gotta print the templates (shown above). Or you can kinda just eyeball it and draw your own. I recommend printing it out, but that's just 'cause I'm a perfectionist! For my cat, I used this incredibly soft grey felt for the body, white for the stomach and ears, and light pink for the cheeks. This is a digital version of what it looked like:

And here are the materials:

*1/2 yard of body fabric. You could probably get by with 1/4 as well, but I would say 1/2.
*1/4 of lighter fabric for the ears and belly.
*Pink scraps for the blush.
*Optional: Safety eyes. I didn't use these, instead I embroidered the them since I couldn't find any at the store..

2. Pin the template to the fabric and cut it out accordingly. You need two (2) pieces of the body ;). I didn't make a template for the blush, since I figured you could make yours an oval like I did, or a circle, but they're both easy shapes to cut out.

3. Once you have your pieces cut out, place the blush and belly on the body. Sew 'em on! Add the safety eyes (or sew) and embroider the nose/mouth.

4. Place the two pieces of the body fabric right sides together and match them up. Sew the edges together, but leave a small section so you can flip the cat inside out.

5. Stuff it! Then, whip stitch the end closed with matching/invisible thread.

I hope this tutorial was useful to you! I'd love to see any variations, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to comment!

See ya,

Semalina

Coraline | The Making Of

Argyles

I was looking around on YouTube the other day, when I cam across this video on how the movie Coraline was created. A few clicks later, lo and behold, I come across a video on the miniature knitter, Althea Crome. She uses knitting needles the same size as a human hair! *gasps* I can't even imagine having to pick up a stitch on such a small scale!
Watch her amazing knitting in action here.

Coraline is such an amazing stop-motion animation, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who haven't seen it yet. The plot is just on the line between real and fantasy, and it it capable of scaring even adults out of their wits! A few other videos on the making of Coraline:

for just one piece of dialogue.

5 miles of gold thread..

A forest of cherry blossoms..

Interview with Jean Fan, Photographer + Tutorial

http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac236/jfotography/strawberrybubbles.jpg

I was looking around on deviantArt, which is a site for artists to share their work and get critique if you didn't know, and I came across this wonderful photographer, Jean Fan (roseonthegrey on dA)! Here is the tutorial on making your own bubbly photos like the one above!

Some of roseonthegrey's other works:

Friendship Star, Conceptual, source

Sunlight, Potraits, source

And finally, the interview!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am a 20 year old, self-taught, photography-enthusiast specializing in conceptual photography.

2. What are 3 photographers that you admire - past or present?

Harold E. "Doc" Edgerton - inventor of high-speed stroboscopic photography.
Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre - inventor of the daguerreotype process.
Jason Lee - for bringing his children into his world of photography.

3. If you weren’t a professional photographer, what would you like to be doing?

That's easy because I'm not a professional photographer. I'm currently studying biomedical engineering and applied mathematics and working as a bioinformatics programmer.

4. What's something that not many people know about you?

Well, not many people know me...so something that not many people know about me would be that I exist.

5. If someone gave you $2000 today to spend on photography equipment, what would you buy?

I don't really need any new equipment right now. Honestly, I think I have too much equipment already. A part of the creative process is forcing yourself to do more with less. I'd probably invest th
at money and spend it on a new camera when mine becomes obsolete...which at the rate that technology is progressing will probably be fairly soon (well within the next couple years).

6. Other than your camera, what is your must-have for sessions?

Patience.

7. Which is your most-used lens?

Probably a three-way-tie between my Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm F/1.8D, Nikon AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 G ED II, and Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di.

8. What inspired you to start photography?

The need to create something.

10. If you could have lunch with someone famous, who would that be?

Stephen Hawking, just so I could see how he eats.

11. Could you share 3 of your favorite images?

The Source, source

Home Made TLR Camera, source

weremadeofCARBON, source

12. Lastly, what is your advice to budding photographers?

Keep at it. Experiment and have fun. Google and Wikipedia can help you when you get stuck.

Thanks Jean Fan! You can visit her deviantArt page here, Facebook here, and her website here.

See ya! :]

Part 1: Simple HTML Tags

Hello everyone! Today I was playing around on CodeAcademy, and thought I should make a series about how to code. Before we get started, I would like to say, I am definitely *not* a pro at this. I've learned the basics, and maybe a little bit beyond, but I still can't whip up flash games or anything like that.. yet. :)

Here we go! Part 1:

First of, I'll introduce you to the basics. How to make your text bold, how to add in a link, and other stuff like that. Yes, I know that you can do all that stuff with the toolbar, but you'll need it if you ever use a platform that doesn't have it.

Also, whenever you see the --, don't copy it as well, since the system assumes I'm writing HTML code, and you won't be able to see the tag.

<-b-> means bold. This is what it looks like. It won't work if you don't close the tag though! So this is what you type:
<-b->Hello World<-/b->
And this is what comes up:
Hello World
Easy right?

Same thing for Italics. Type:

<-i->Blue, Green, Orange<-/i->

And you get:

Blue, Green, Orange

You can also "mix and match" tags. For example, use the bold and the italics tag at the same time, and you get:

Welcome to my blog!

Remember though, first in, last out. This means if you use the bold tag first, end it last. Like so:

<-b-><-i->Example Text<-/i-><-/b->

Now on to Headings!

This is heading 1

The text behind this:

<-h1->This brings up Heading 1, which is the biggest<-/h1>

It also works for other headings, going up to 6.

This is Heading 4

Feel free to play around with this!

Next up, adding in Images!

source

The code is:

<-img src="http://www.etsy.com/listing/80438661/html-necklace-geek-jewelry-geek-chic?ref=pr_faveitems" /->

That's all for today, but here's a sneak peek at what's in store next time!

Isn't this fun? :) Come back next week to learn how!

See ya :]

Ideas For Decorating Your Bedroom

Hi there! I was recently thinking about redoing my boring, ba-humbug workspace. So here are some ideas I found:

source

Easy to make, and it adds a splash of color to your room! This is definitely one of the easiest ways to jazz up your room!

source

Breezy and beautiful, these branch curtain rods are a must make for anyone looking to add a whimsical touch to their room!

Whip up a batch of glass-like stars to string up in your window! Pretty and all you need are cellophane bags. Easy peasy lemon squeesy!

Make a pretty burlap corkboard to show off photos and what-not! Perfect for sprucing up a bland white wall!

This is definitely thrift store up-cycling at its best! A bright desk drawer makes for an eye-catching table display.

source

These colorful fabric storage boxes are great for storing things, like all those extra blankets, or your yarn collection.

Make these sweet candle votives to add a touch of shabby-chic to your room! Fun and beautiful!

I hope this inspires you to give your room a make-over! I would love to see what you come up with!

See ya,

Semalina
